Job Title: QC Manager
Type of Role: Direct Hire
Shift / Hours: Day M-F Possible weekend depending on audits
Location: Modesto, CA
Salary Range: $100k-$120k DOE
Summary/Objective
The Quality Assurance Operations Manager is responsible for strategic leadership and direction setting for the Company food safety program to ensure that products meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Serve as a member of the executive leadership team participating in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives, operating model, and operational execution.
2. Develop and implement a comprehensive quality assurance vision and strategies aligned with the company’s goals and regulatory requirements.
3. Set quality assurance objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the organization and monitor progress toward achieving them.
4. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing process to enhance product quality, reduce defects, lower costs, and increase operational efficiency.
5. Utilize data-driven approaches such as six sigma, lean manufacturing, kaizen and other quality management systems to optimize processes and ensure repeatability.
6. Partner with other functional areas (finance, DT, operations, human resources) to enhance overall business success.
7. Foster a strong food safety culture and critical thinking mindset within quality control, food safety, regulatory and compliance functions through leading, mentoring and developing high performance teams.

9. Coordinate plant inspection activities with government and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
10. Serve as Lead SQF Practitioner to develop and implement Food Safety & Quality, SQF fundamentals, and the Food Safety.
11. Oversee the maintenance, review and validation of the SQF System (food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan).
12. Develop and maintains QA procedures and conducts QC testing on a timely basis to ensure that product specifications are met.
13. Oversees the plant sanitation program, including managing plant Master Sanitation and CIP schedules and perform routine follow-up on the application of the schedules. Review micro results daily.
14. Conduct routine sanitation and quality audits of the plant and coordinate required corrective actions.
15. Oversee and direct testing procedures to assure compliant testing standards and product integrity.
16. Provide leadership with mock recall and business continuity planning.
17. Daily review of HARPC Critical Control Point records.
18. Responsible for Product Hold & Releases.
19. Facilitate & manage sample pulls and retention.
20. Communicate with salespeople regarding product quality issues.
21. Conduct investigations and root cause analysis on any customer quality complaints pertaining to potential food safety and/or sanitation issues.
22. Provide leadership and direction to QA and sanitation personnel including training, communicating performance expectations, provide coaching and conduct performance reviews.
23. Interact with Operations Management and collaborate to increase sanitation standards, product quality and safety.
24. Support of Production Management to troubleshoot deficiencies in sanitation and quality execution and assures plant preparedness for customer and regulatory inspections.
25. Educate and motivate the plant workforce on quality and sanitation initiatives and serves as the Subject Matter Expert in all aspects of the Quality & Sanitation Programs.
26. Oversee and enforce current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) and all relevant company policies and food safety regulations.

1. Performs other duties as assigned from management to ensure business operations run smoothly.
2. Champion corporate food safety culture and strategies to mitigate food safety risk
3. Champion Quality Assurance programs by developing initiative and timely follow-up on corrective actions.
4. Responsible for instilling the importance of safety in the workplace through adherence to safety rules, practicing safe work habits, utilizing appropriate safety equipment and reporting unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
5. Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
6. Champion GMP maintain a clean and sanitary work practices.
7. Ability to be flexible to the productions needs and adjustments to work-hours.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for sanitation and QA/QC personnel.
Support Responsibility
In the absence of QA Manager, this position serves as back up to ensure all food safety, operation/quality objectives and SQF system requirements are met throughout the plant and department.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
1. Ability to interact with regulatory personnel, including practical audit experience.
2. Comprehensive knowledge and competency of Food Safety including HACCP principals, CGMPs, SOPs and SSOPs, Pest Control, Allergen Control & Recall programs.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
4. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style to create an engaged, motivated and high performing team.
6. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information, instructions and details and utilize to guide methods and procedures.
7. Advanced project management, leadership, and delegation skills; able to lead projects, assign tasks and achieve results through others
8. Organized and detail oriented
9. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, basic experience with laboratory software and manufacturing databases.
Certification and License
1. SQF Practitioner certificate
2. Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI)
3. Industrial Supervisor by CDFA
4. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points Certification
Required Education and Experience
1. 5+ years of food manufacturing industry experience in a quality assurance environment, with at least 3 years at the management level.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or related fields.
3. Understanding of the SQF Code level 2 and the requirements to implement and maintain SQF system
4. SQF Practitioner/HACCP certified.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. 7+ years of dairy food manufacturing industry experience, with at least 5 years at the management level in a quality assurance environment.
2. Post-graduate degree (Masters/PhD) in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology or related fields.
3. Expertise in regulatory compliance, food safety, labeling, and quality standards for dairy production.
4. Experienced in managing external audits with clients, vendors and regulatory agencies.
Work Schedule The typical work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week. Actual schedule is based on operational needs; weekend work not uncommon. It is the attendance standard of the employer that employee be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination or employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
Travel May require occasional travel to customer or vendor sites.

Work is normally performed in a warehouse/production/laboratory type atmosphere where the temperature may vary from cold to hot. The noise level in the work environment usually is moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals. Employee should read the warning labels for information and instructions. We maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as required by law on hazardous products. SDS’s are kept at the office for review by employees.
