Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Type of Role: (Contract)
Expected Length of Contract: (2 Months)
Shift / Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm
Location: Castroville, CA
Hourly Range: $24-$26/Hour
Position Summary:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing the company’s payroll and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and internal policies. Experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (CRE) software is REQUIRED. The ideal candidate is organized, discreet, and thrives in a fast-paced construction or project-based work environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Process weekly/biweekly payroll for all employees using Sage 300.

Maintain accurate payroll records including timesheets, deductions, taxes, and direct deposit information.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

Coordinate with HR and accounting departments on new hires, terminations, benefits deductions, garnishments, and changes in employment status.

Generate and submit required payroll reports (including certified payroll reports for public works projects if applicable).

Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate all entries.

Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and management in a timely and professional manner.

Prepare year-end reports including W-2s, and assist with audits as required.

Keep up-to-date with changes in payroll regulations and software updates in Sage 300.
Requirements:

Mandatory: Proficient in Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (CRE) payroll module.

Minimum 3–5 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in the construction or related industry.

Strong understanding of payroll regulations and tax laws.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general familiarity with accounting systems.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with union payroll and certified payroll reporting.

Knowledge of California labor laws (if applicable to the role’s location).

Background in accounting or HR a plus.
