Job Title: NOC Operator
Type of Role: Long-term contract
Expected Length of Contract: 6-12+ months, likely extending 18+ months
Shift / Hours: 3pm-12am Thursday-Monday AND 3pm-12am Tuesday-Saturday
Location: 100% onsite in Irvine
Hourly Range: $22-26/hr, will consider candidates over rate based on qualifications and experience
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled NOC Operator – AS400 with 5+ years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in monitoring and managing AS400 environments as well as a deep understanding of network operations. As a key member of the NOC team, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of our network infrastructure and AS400 systems, quickly addressing any issues that arise, and ensuring minimal disruption to our services.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Monitor the performance, health, and availability of AS400 systems and related hardware/software components.
- Perform in-depth troubleshooting of AS400 system issues including hardware failures, software issues, and performance optimization.
- Ensure smooth operation of AS400-based applications and support critical business functions by managing system availability.
- Execute routine and ad-hoc backups, restores, and system checks in accordance with company policies and industry best practice.
- Lead proactive monitoring of the network infrastructure, servers, and applications, ensuring critical systems are always operational.
- Respond to system alerts and escalations, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently or escalated to senior technical teams as needed.
- Utilize network monitoring tools to quickly identify and address performance issues and outages.
- Perform ongoing health checks of systems, including memory usage, CPU load, and disk space utilization on both AS400 systems and network infrastructure.
- Serve as a senior resource for incident management, diagnosing and resolving complex AS400 system and network issues promptly.
- Oversee incident tracking and resolution, ensuring that each issue is logged, addressed, and resolved within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Lead efforts in root cause analysis to prevent reoccurrence of incidents and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Manage and document changes in systems, ensuring all changes are logged and comply with company procedures and ITIL standards.
- Prepare and deliver advanced reports on system performance, outages, and other critical operational metrics to senior management.
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date documentation for all NOC operations, including SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and incident resolution procedures.
- Create detailed escalation reports to ensure transparent communication with internal teams and external vendors.
- Work closely with IT teams, system administrators, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and support of AS400 systems.
- Serve as an expert resource and mentor to junior NOC operators and other team members.
- Communicate system issues and outages effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Identify and recommend improvements to current monitoring systems and processes for better efficiency and performance.
- Review logs, data, and system metrics to proactively identify potential risks and performance issues.
- Drive improvements in the NOC environment, ensuring best practices are consistently followed.
Skills and Experience:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in an NOC or technical support role with a focus on AS400 (IBM iSeries) systems.
- Proven experience in monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting AS400 systems in a mission-critical environment.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills, with the ability to address complex technical issues across systems.
- Strong analytical thinking to proactively identify and resolve system performance issues.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information to various stakeholders.
- Ability to create clear and concise documentation and reports.
- IBM iSeries (AS400) certification or related technical certifications.
- ITIL Foundation or similar certification.
- Network certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA) are a plus.
