Position Summary

The Roasting Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining roasting equipment used in the production of premium tea products. This role ensures consistent flavor profiles, quality standards, and food safety compliance while maintaining efficient production flow. The ideal candidate has experience in food manufacturing, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tea roasting equipment according to established roasting profiles and production schedules

  • Monitor temperature, humidity, time controls, and airflow to ensure consistent product quality

  • Inspect raw tea leaves before and after roasting for quality, color, aroma, and texture

  • Adjust roasting parameters as needed to meet product specifications

  • Document batch records, production logs, and quality control checks accurately

  • Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on roasting equipment

  • Follow all food safety, GMP, and OSHA regulations

  • Work closely with Quality Control and Production teams to meet daily output goals

  • Assist with staging raw materials and transferring finished product to packaging


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 1–3 years of experience in food production, coffee roasting, tea processing, or related manufacturing environment preferred

  • Experience operating industrial roasting or heat-processing equipment is a plus

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to read production schedules and follow standardized procedures

  • Strong attention to detail and sensory awareness (smell, color, texture)

  • Forklift certification (preferred, if applicable)

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods


Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of different tea varieties and roasting techniques

  • Understanding of HACCP and food safety standards

  • Bilingual (if applicable to your workforce needs)

  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills


Work Environment

  • Food manufacturing/production facility

  • Exposure to heat, machinery, and production noise

  • May require overtime, weekends, or shift flexibility

Job Type:
Temp to Hire, Full-time

Pay Rate:
$18.00/hour

Location:
Watsonville, CA

Schedule:
Monday – Thursday // Work Alternative 4/10
6:30am – 5:00pm
