Job Title: PCB SMT Technician
Type of Role: Direct Hire
Shift / Hours: Monday – Friday 8am-4:30pm
Location: Burlington, Kansas
Salary Range: 80K to 100K
Job Summary
The PCB SMT Technician is responsible for leading, sustaining, and optimizing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production processes in a high-mix, high-reliability PCB assembly environment. This role ensures equipment readiness, process stability, quality compliance, and throughput performance across the SMT line.
This position provides hands-on technical leadership, independently troubleshoots process and equipment issues, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and mentors technicians and operators to strengthen in-house capability. The SMT Technician works closely with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to support new product introductions (NPI), maintain process control, and achieve safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery objectives.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Set up and operate SMT equipment including screen printer, pick-and-place machines, reflow oven, AOI, and X-ray systems
• Perform full line changeovers and first article inspections
• Troubleshoot placement, solder, reflow, and process-related defects
• Optimize throughput, yield, and line efficiency
• Apply IPC-610 / J-STD standards (certification preferred; training provided)
• Read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, and process travelers
• Mentor and train technicians and operators
• Support NPI builds and customer requirements
• Maintain documentation and production records
• Enforce safety and 5S standards
Skills and Experience:
• 3–5+ years of hands-on SMT line experience in PCB or electronics manufacturing
• Proven ability to troubleshoot independently across multiple equipment types
• Strong understanding of SMT components, soldering processes, and inspection standards
• Experience in high-reliability or regulated environments preferred
• U.S. work authorization required
Preferred
• Experience with multi-layer, HDI, or rigid-flex boards
• IPC-610 certification
