Purchasing Manager – Structural Steel

Oakdale, CA (On-site)

Schedule
Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:45 PM

Compensation
$90,000 – $100,000+ per year (DOE)

Position Overview
Balance Staffing is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager with a strong background in the structural steel industry. This role will lead all purchasing operations and play a key part in supporting fabrication and erection projects by ensuring materials are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with project timelines and quality standards.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and confident making independent decisions in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Manage all purchasing activities related to structural steel fabrication and erection projects
• Review and interpret structural steel and erection drawings to procure accurate materials
• Source, evaluate, and maintain vendor and supplier relationships
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve the best cost and delivery outcomes
• Track material availability, lead times, and delivery schedules
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, documentation, and inventory controls
• Partner with project management, engineering, and fabrication teams
• Proactively identify and resolve purchasing issues
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, project requirements, and industry standards

Qualifications
• 7+ years of purchasing experience in the structural steel industry (required)
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel and erection drawings
• Proven vendor negotiation and supplier management experience
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
